Salt Lake Library's Circulation
Circulation is an important element that links the spaces of a building, or any series of interior or exterior spaces, together. It’s also important because determines the basic shape and character of the entire structure. That is why the designer has to take into account circulation elements in the design, such as the approach to the building, the entrance, the sequence of paths and their relationship to the spaces. There are two types of circulation: horizontal and vertical, each with their own characteristics.

The horizontal circulation of the library star with the approach to the building; we can see how is surrounded with green areas and paths that leads to the main entrance of the library. Once inside, the visitors find a large and height patio in the middle that distributed the people to different spaces using corridors, galleries and rooms. In the superior levels it has long halls at the sides where people can walk in different directions to their destination.

It has stairways all the way from the first to the fifth floor in thenorthwest entrance of the library, which can be seen from the facade; also has stairways in the middle of the central patio from the first to the fifth floor as well. This stairs are curved and right next to the elevators.

In conclusion, circulation is an important element in any urban plan or architectural design because establish the relationship between the parts and the whole. Circulation should give the impression that they lead to some definite place and it has to be convenient, clear and practical. The Salt Lake City Library has all these elements very well established, both inside and outside. Their circulation is very functional and practical.
